A Tisha B'Av message from Rav Mordechai Burg:

 

Chevra,
     I just want to share one quick idea about Tisha B'av with you.
     Chazal tell us that the second Beis Hamikdash was destroyed because of sinas chinam, baseless hatred. Chazal also tell us that every generation that doesn't rebuild the Beis Hamikdash its as if they have destroyed the Beis Hamikdash.
      This means that our generation is guilty of the same sinas chinam as the generation that lived through the churban bayis!
      However, what does it mean that its as if we destroyed the Beis Hamikdash? We have simply failed to rebuild the Beis Hamikdash!
      The Nefesh Hachaim tells us that the Beis Hamikdash was a physical manifestation of the Mikdash that resides in all of  us. As the pasuk says "Asu li mikdash vishachanti bisocham" "Make for me a Mikdash and I will dwell within YOU."
      There is a place inside of all of us that continues to exist and it is called Mikdash. In order to rebuild the physical Mikdash we need to unify our collective internal Mikdash. Sinas Chinam, is not simply preventing the rebuilding of the Bayis Shlishi, it is actively destroying the natural unity of Klal Yisrael and therefore by extension the Beis Hamikdosh.
       Let us end this foolishness! We must stop carrying the banners of our specific ideological differences and unite under the banner of Torah! Only in this way can we truly be kish echad bilev echad worthy of receiving Mashiach.
