Rav Yedidya Berzon

Rosh Mosdot Mevaseret, Alumni Rebbe

Rav Shimon Isaacson

Rosh Yeshiva

Education: Semicha – Rav Hirschprung; Hesder Yeshiva – Yeshivat Har Etzion, Mekor Chaim

Having finished Shas at seventeen, Rav Yedidya is one of the most phenomenal Talmidei Chachamim on the entire Israel scene. Most people with Rav Yedidya’s capabilities sit in the ivory tower of the truly gifted, but not Rav Yedidya. He is accessible to the boys of the Yeshiva on every level. For the last eighteen years Rav Yedidya’s shiurim have spanned the length of Shas and Poskim but it’s his special affection for the Talmidim that sets him apart. From his world famous “Rav Yedidya Barbeques,” to one-on-one chavrutot and everything in between, Rav Yedidya is the consummate Rebbe.

While overseeing every facet of the Yeshiva, Rav Yedidya also continues to actively participate in the chinuch of the Yeshiva, spending numerous hours each day in the Beit Midrash learning with boys. Rav Yedidya also delivers very popular shiurim and inspiring schmoozes, which position our Talmidim for future success in all areas of their lives. Additionally, Rav Yedidya is the official Alumni Rebbe, as he regularly travels back to the States for the express purpose of delivering shiurim to our Talmidim and maintaining a kesher with them. Starting his teaching career at the young age of nineteen, Rav Yedidya has well over one thousand Talmidim and talmidot with whom he continues to keep a kesher. Rav Yedidya is constantly receiving phone calls from our alumni seeking guidance in every facet of their lives and it is not uncommon for him to be mesader kiddushin at the weddings of his Talmidim. Because of Rav Yedidya’s efforts, there is no such thing as a former talmid of YSMZ.  When you are a talmid at Mevaseret, you are a talmid for life!

Education: Semicha – Meretz Kollel, Mevaseret Zion; New York University School of Law, Master of Law , L.L.M. (Taxation); New York University School of Law, J.D.; Yeshiva University, B.A. (Philosophy)

A master of tax law who could have become a partner at a major law firm, the Rosh Yeshiva instead chose to use his incredible talents building the future of Klal Yisrael. He began his career in Chinuch as a Shoel U’Meshiv and Night Seder Rebbe in our very own Beit Midrash. As a result of his overwhelming popularity, he was soon promoted to a full time Morning Shiur position and now leads Mevaseret as Rosh Yeshiva. For fifteen years, Rav Isaacson has given an outstanding shiur that clearly and concisely conceptualizes and breaks down the Gemara. His charisma and lucidity keep everyone attentive. Because the Rosh Yeshiva’s shiur is geared towards student participation, he sharpens the minds of his Talmidim (while also giving them a tip or two on their vocabulary and use of the English language). We are privileged to have Rav Isaacson as our Rosh Yeshiva, leading the Yeshiva into the future.

In addition to the Rosh Yeshiva’ Gemara shiur, Rav Isaacson is well known for his in-depth, practical Hilchot Shabbat Shiur that covers most of the 39 Melachot and Hilchot Muktzeh.  Rav Isaacson also delivers a weekly Hashkafa Sicha to the entire Yeshiva that is both stimulating and inspiring. Rav Isaacson’s shiurim can be seen on video at Naaleh.com.  Aside from the Rosh Yeshiva’s many shiurim, Rav Isaacson can always be found in the Beit Midrash counseling the Talmidim in all areas of their lives.

Rav Shmuel Zucker

Ram - Afternoon Seder

 Rav Barak Saffer
Ram - Morning and Afternoon Seder, Director of Programming

Education: Semicha - Mirrer Yeshiva; Graduate Gateshead, Beer Yaakov

At the tender age of twenty-five, Rav Zucker had already published Shashuei Shmuel, a sefer of Chiddushei Torah that deals with Sugyot in Shas and a mystical understanding of the Yamim Tovim.  Such Torah luminaries as Rav Nosson Tzvi Finkel, Rosh Yeshiva Mir Yerushalayim, Rav Moshe Shmuel Shapiro, Rosh Yeshiva Yeshivat Beer Yaakov and the Strickover Rebbe gave personalized approbations to the  sefer.

Renowned for his erudition in all areas of the Torah, Rav Zucker gives an intriguing class in Jewish Eschatology, offering the Talmidim a rare opportunity to gather information both fascinating and foreign to most people. Additionally, Rav Zucker offers shiurim in emunah and a unique look at Parshat HaShavua.  Besides his gadlut in Torah, Rav Zucker is known for his energy, passion and immense warmth, creating an unbelievably close kesher with all his Talmidim.

Education:  Semicha - Yeshiva University, Gruss Kollel Elyon; Yeshiva University - B.S. (Computer Science)

New to the Mevaseret Family, Rav Saffer brings with him a wealth of experience both as a mechanech in America and in Eretz Yisrael.  Rav Saffer possesses a unique combination rarely found in a Rebbe - managing to fuse his passionate commitment to a very high-level of learning with his relaxed and down-to-earth style of relating to his Talmidim. Rabbi Saffer's Talmidim truly become a part of the Saffer family, as he and his wife often host as many as fifteen Talmidim at a time for Shabbos. In fact, throughout the years some Talmidim have literally moved into his house for the summer!
Rav Saffer's afternoon schedule includes teaching an in-depth analysis of the Halachot of Bein Adam L'Chaveiro (covering topics such as Bikur Cholim, Nichum Aveilim, Tzedaka, Hachnasat Orchim and Kiruv Rechokim), as well as acting as Shana Bet Mashgiach, coordinating all Shana Bet programming and shiurim, and overseeing their continued growth.  Additionally, second year Talmidim have the opportunity to review Morning Seder shiur with an exceptional Talmid Chacham in Rav Saffer. Outside of YSMZ, Rav Saffer is a Rebbe on NCSY Kollel and gives an Iyun shiur at night to an impressive array of working professionals, including doctors, dentists, lawyers, high-tech executives, accountants and even other mechanchim. We feel truly fortunate to have Rav Saffer with us as a member of the Mevaseret Family.

Education:

Semicha - Rabbi Zalman Nechemia Goldberg; Recipient of the prestigious Ketter Torah V'Hora'ah - Yeshivat Torat Moshe; Kollel - Yeshivat Torat Moshe, Mir Yeshiva; B.A. - Excelsior College

Rabbi Dovid Lovy has come to our yeshiva after a stellar career as Av Bayit and seven years of celebrated experience teaching Gemara, machshava and an array of other topics. Rabbi Lovy’s easy-going, engaging and captivating personality has made him immensely popular with his Talmidim – indeed with anyone in the yeshiva ‑‑ in and out of the Beit Midrash. Rabbi Lovy's love and passion for Torah study is nothing less than contagious. His uncanny ability to share the beauty and complexity of Torah in a relaxed and entertaining fashion is his trademark.

Rabbi Lovy is famous for his sense of humor, and his fount of wisdom makes him a magnet for those who wish to discuss and work out life’s complexities and their Jewish future.

Education:

Semicha - Rabbi Zalman Nechemia Goldberg; Yoreh Yoreh - Yeshivas Beis Yisrael; Kollel - Mir Yeshiva; B.A. psychology -  Yeshiva University & Hofstra University

Rav Steinherz is an imposing figure, to say the least - after all, a Rav who can bench-press 450 pounds is quite the anomaly. But, truth be told, Rav Steinherz's biggest muscle is his heart. His open home is legend amongst talmidim, who take full advantage of his hospitality, sometimes even to sleep over when they need a night away from the hustle and bustle of a yeshiva dorm. His shiurim challenge talmidim to think outside the box and understand what Judaism is really all about. He is available at all hours of the day, and is in constant contact with his talmidim, both past and present. His Erev Shabbos phone calls often take up several hours of his time, a true testament about how much Rav Steinherz cares for his talmidim. A veteran rebbe who worked at Ner Yaakov for seven years, Rav Steinherz has seen it all. As such, he is able to schmooze with talmidim from all different walks of life, making him one of the most sought-after rebbeim in the yeshiva.

Rav Daniel Katz

Director of Administration & Ram - Morning Seder (Shana Bet)

Rav Binyomin Beiser
Ram - Morning Seder & Night Seder (Shana Bet)

Education: Semicha - Yeshiva University; MA, Jewish Education – Azrieli Graduate School; B.A. Economics – Yeshiva University; Katz Kollel – Yeshiva University under Rav Herschel Schachter

Rav Katz is perhaps the best-kept secret in YSMZ. A tireless worker who never is "out of the office," Rav Katz is also a master educator, specializing in gemara skills and reading. Rav Katz does most of his work behind the scenes in the Mevaseret Office, but somehow he finds time this year to give a Shana Bet morning seder, helping the boys hone their reading and making them attentive to nuances in gemara and rishonim. It is a rare shabbos where boys are NOT invited over to Rav Katz's house, as his hospitality is renown amongst the talmidim. Rav Katz is a veteran of the yeshiva circuit, having previously worked at Yeshivas Torat Shraga and Yesodei HaTorah, and he brings a wealth of experience to Mevaseret's staff.

Education: Semicha – Chief Rabbinate of Israel; B.A. Psychology – Yeshiva University; YSMZ Alumnus (5754-56)

After graduating from YU, Rav Beiser returned to his alma mater as one of the founding members of the Mevaseret Kollel, where he studied Semicha for five years and also had twice daily chavrutot as well as weekly vaadim with the Shana Alef Talmidim. Rav Beiser was always the natural choice to serve as "substitute teacher" for any of the Rabbeim who were away. Rav Beiser continued on from Mevaseret to several advanced-level Kollelim in Yerushalayim including the Mir Yeshiva, the "Super Kollel" of Yeshivas Aish HaTorah, and Kollel Ateres Elimelech. Before joining the Mevaseret staff, Rav Beiser spent  time at Yeshivas Tehillas Shlomo – learning with and mentoring Talmidim.

Rav Beiser's energy is focused not only on developing the Talmidim  in the Beit Midrash and engaging them in shiur, but also on forging the same kind of relationships that he had enjoyed so much with his rabbeim when he was a YSMZ Talmid!

Rav Meir Arnold
Ram - Morning Seder, Afternoon Seder

Rav Zvi Herman
Morning Seder Shoel U'Meshiv, Ram - Night Seder, Av Bayit, Alumni Coordinator

Education:  Semicha - Yeshiva University (RIETS), Gruss Kollel.  Yeshiva University, Accounting – BS, CPA; Azrieli School of Jewish Education – MA.

Rav Arnold makes his mark on Mevaseret with his engaging teaching style.  His student-centric shiur is an energetic environment full of warmth and interaction; a unique place where talmidim feel comfortable and relaxed, yet encouraged and pushed to work hard.  Rav Arnold – a master of differentiation – works patiently to make sure each student utilizes his own individual learning strengths to master each lesson.  The result is an authentic thrill of discovery, a true feeling of achievement.

Rav Arnold comes to Mevaseret with a wealth of teaching experience, honed from his more than a decade of instructing in prestigious educational institutions.   In 2005, while Rabbi Arnold taught at Yavneh Academy in Paramus, NJ, Yeshivat Sha’alvim awarded him the Educational Leadership Award.  Immediately prior to his 2007 aliyah, Rav Arnold served as Learning Specialist for the Rav Teitz Mesivta Academy (JEC) in Elizabeth, NJ, running the high school’s Learning Center and serving as Coordinator of High School Special Services.   Upon making aliyah, Rav Arnold was assigned a daily morning shiur in Yeshivat Yesodei HaTorah.  He was concurrently awarded the esteemed research fellowship in Torah Initiatives of ATID.  In 2009, Rabbi Arnold co-developed a ground-breaking system for teaching Gemara in the mainstream classroom to students with learning differences.

In the afternoon, aside from serving as a “chessed shadchan” for interested students, Rav Arnold teaches a sophisticated Navi shiur and Gemara bekiut.  His bekiut shiur empowers each talmid to independently attack, understand and appreciate an unfamiliar piece of Gemara.  In Navi class Rav Arnold brings the stories of the Tanach to life through textual and character analyses and by taking his talmidim on trips to see the actual places where our Nevi'im stood and where we are privileged to live. The Arnold home is always open to talmidim, who become part of the extended Arnold family.

Education: B.A. - Yeshiva University; Semicha - Yeshiva University (RIETS), Gruss Kollel. M.A. - Azrieli School of Jewish Education.

Rav Zvi is another Mevaseret Talmid who has come back home to serve on our illustrious staff. His incredible ability to relate to the guys is a function of his warm personality and his experience as a YSMZ talmid himself, as well as his many talents - he is an accomplished author, musician, and collegiate athlete.
As the Av Bayit, his house is always open to the talmidim for schmoozing or a good meal. Rav Zvi’s Night Seder is quite popular as talmidim cover a wide range of sources relating to the Weekly Parsha, enhancing their reading skills and increasing their knowledge of Chumash, Halacha, Midrash, and Gemara. Rav Zvi is always available for a schmooze or just to hang out, giving talmidim an incredible role model to identify with and relate to.
